What are the Different Types of Acne?

Acne has several different names, because there are different types of acne; a mild form which is a few pimples here and there once in a while, the steady outbreak of pimples and then there is the severe form of acne that has constant breakouts. The most common form of acne is acne vulgaris, and this is acne that can affect people from the age of about ten all the way through their teen years and into their twenties.

The other forms of acne can include cystic acne and acne rosacea, both which usually affect adults and can continue into their forties.

Acne can include whiteheads, blackheads, the common pimple, pustules, and cysts, all that occur when the sebaceous glands are over producing and can affect the facial area, the neck, the back and chest on some people that have more severe acne problems.

  1. Types Of Inflammatory Acne

There are certain kinds of acne that can be inflammatory and that you should really be careful with. It doesn't matter what type of acne you have, you should not poke or miss it.

    Inflammatory acne -
Papule - Firm bumps that are small and pink. These are very tender.

Pustule - These are similar to papules. You can see how inflamed they are and have a red base or possibly whitish and yellowish center.

Cysts or Nodules - These hurt a lot and can be really painful. They can also leave scars that are deep and they produce a lot of pus.

Acne conglobata - This happens on your buttocks, back and your chest. It might cause infections that might be considered bacterial and in some cases severe.

When you have acne and you fear that it is inflammed, call your local doctor and inform them. It's better that they know because they might have to treat it.

  2. Are There Different Types of Severe Acne?

Severe acne is a form of acne that has little relief from pimples, pustules and can include cysts and other types of blemishes. This is also a form of acne that includes four different types of acne included under the category of severe.

There is acne conglobata, this is acne that is chronic and severe in nature and is a form of acne vulgaris, this will have deep abscesses, inflammation, and blackheads. This type of acne condition can cause scarring and severe skin damage. This can also cause nodules, which can form around multiple comedones. This can cause keloid types of scars that there can be deep ulcerated nodules and there can be burrowing abscesses present.

This is a type of acne that is often present more in males than in females and the treatment usually includes medications with isotretinoin and antibiotics are often prescribed.
